The Bay Area Chorus of Greater Houston (BAC) celebrates a choral legacy exceeding 55 years, providing diverse concert venues throughout the greater Houston area and beyond.  More than 120 volunteer singers, from every imaginable vocation, unite to prepare monumental master choral works, stirring patriotic songs, beloved folk tunes, Broadway smash hits, breathtaking spirituals, and engaging global sounds from around the world.  From classic to modern—G. F. Handel, W. A. Mozart, J. S. Bach, and Johannes Brahms to John Rutter, Dan Forrest, Eric Whitacre, and Elaine Hagenburg—Bay Area Chorus delivers choral inspiration to people from every generation.  It is our continuing commitment to enrich lives through choral music!

We meet at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church from 7-9 pm to rehearse every Monday, unless otherwise notified.

If you are interested in participating in our upcoming season, please request an audition time by calling our Hotline number at 346-358-3585, or by e-mail at info@bayareachorus.org.   When requesting an audition, please be prepared to provide the following information:

  • Your Contact Information: mailing address; phone; email address

  • Your Voice part, if known

  • Your Musical background and experience

  • Why you are interested in auditioning for the Bay Area Chorus.

Audition requirements

  • Vocalization to determine vocal range

  • “God Bless America” a cappella

  • Repeat short tonal patterns which assess tonal memory

  • Sight read a short exercise

By singing in the Bay Area Chorus, music educators have the opportunity to get on the other side of the podium and gain the singer’s perspective. Based on vocal audition results, the scholarships consist of membership fee reductions.

Singers who audition and are accepted into the chorus are expected to pay the chorus dues or make payment arrangements with the business manager prior to receiving music and attending the first rehearsal. Chorus dues are $75 for the fall season - Mid-August through early December. Chorus dues are $75 for the spring season - January through early May. Chorus dues for active and retired music educators are $37.50 per season.
