Scholarships and Outreach

Enriching Lives Through Choral Music

One goal of BAC is to provide educational outreach to the community by granting scholarships. BAC offers three scholarships for local senior high school choral students who plan to pursue an undergraduate degree in vocal music education or performance and one for graduate music students at University of Houston.

Meet the Director

Milton Pullen

If you love music and don’t know Milton Pullen, you are missing out! He directed award-winning high school choral programs for 24 years, mostly in CCISD, was BAC’s artistic director 1970-1975, and conducted the Clear Lake Symphony 1978-1979. A native Texan, his music education and conducting degrees are from Texas A&M Univ., Kingsville, and the Univ. of Houston. Mr. Pullen was associate professor of music at Abilene Christian Univ. for 6 years and became professor of music and director of choirs at Pepperdine Univ., Malibu, in 1995... but could not stay away from Texas. He has been artistic director of BAC since 2014.

 Mr. Pullen’s choirs have performed for the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), the California Music Educators Association, and the National Convention of the American Choral Directors Association. He is an adjudicator and clinician for choirs throughout Texas, a former state vocal chairman and past TMEA president, and has received the Texas Denius-UIL Sponsor Excellence Award in choral music (1993), the Howard A. White Excellence in Teaching Award (Pepperdine, 2005), and the Texas Choral Directors’ Associate Texas Choirmaster Award (2010).  After 57 years of teaching, he recently decided it was time to hang up his conducting baton.

This unique and talented man will serve his final year as BAC's artistic director in 2022-2023. Join us throughout the next year as we celebrate Mr. Pullen’s lasting legacy.

Our beloved Artistic Director, Milton Pullen, has decided to hang up his conducting baton. The Bay Area Chorus of Greater Houston has officially started the search for a new Artistic Director beginning the 2023-2024 Season. 

We thank Milton Pullen for the many years of guidance and growth and for the beautiful music we made together. We look forward to continuing the legacy of BAC with an equally outstanding director to further our message to Enrich Lives through Choral Music.
